(here's an unfinished fic)
The Slayer's Soul Mate

Disclaimer: I don't own these characters or the plot line. I only own
Isabella and her part in the plot. Please don't sue, I only get 5 bucks a
week, you'd get nothing if you sued poor little me.
Summary: My extended and twisted version of the first fifth season episode.
It's not really anything like the actual ep, just has the Dracula stuff.
But there's no Dawn.
Rating: 14A maybe, just some descriptive kissing, violence, and some
swearing maybe. Nothing nasty or disturbing though.
Authors Note: Although I am writing a story that contains Buffy and Riley
as a couple at least for some of the time, I am completely against their
relationship. I am proud to call myself a Buffy/Angel shipper through and
through.
Thoughts are in italics.
Feedback: Of course, the good, the bad, or the ugly, the good is preferred.

Buffy finished staking the last of the three vamps that had jumped her with
a quick swift stab and it's heart with her wooden stake. It exploded into a
cold dust that coated the vampire slayers clothes. The vampires that had
attacked Buffy Summer had been dimwitted, determined, but stupid, but they
had still done her damage, she sighed as she touched the bruise that would
form on her forehead as she began to trudge to the dorm room that she shared
with her best friend Willow. Maybe, if she hadn't been tired, if she had
been on the alert, she would have noticed the dark shadow of a figure that
lurked in the cold graveyard, watching her every movement, marveling in her
grace. Unknowingly, the slayer started to walk towards his hiding place,
although he did not worry about being discovered. He wanted to see her, for
her to see him.
******************************
In the shadows at the opposite end of the graveyard, another dark figure
watched the slayer heading home. He smiled, as close as he could get to one
that is. He watched her with lust, with passion, with a gaze that could
melt any girl. Then, he cleared those thoughts from his head, for he was
there for only business, not to revel in her beauty. It was hard though, so
hard to keep those thoughts out of his head. He watched her with deep
concern etched into his chiseled face, but he knew that He wouldn't harm
her, at least not yet. He had time. It was the only thing he did have.
******************************
Buffy was startled by a sound that came from her left. Fast as a panther,
the slayer grabbed a stake out of her jacket, every muscle in sync with the
others, in tune with the hunt. When there was nothing, the slayer made a
hint of a shrug with her shoulders. Turning around, she almost bumped into
the figure that stood in front of her. She backed up, startled by his
sudden appearance. He was a vampire, of that she was sure but there was
something odd about him, that made the kill frenzy slayer refrain from
staking him on the spot. There was power in the air, radiating off of the
vampire that stood in front of her. He was oddly pale, more so than most
regular vampires, dressing in a medieval black and red satin cape, he had
black, gelled hair, which hung low, and almost touched his broad shoulders.
When the light shown just right, Buffy could see it glint off the vampire's
fang, apparently he had no game face.
"Who are you," whispered Buffy, in a very unlike Buffy state. Normally she
would have come up with some smooth line, but she was thrown by how she felt
inside with him around. He was unnerving.
"I, am Dracula," came the simple reply. The voice had an accent; Buffy
guessed that it was Transylvanian. His voice sounded throughout her body,
setting every nerve on fire. She could feel herself being torn apart by his
eyes, felt like she was being strip-searched. For a split second, she felt
attracted to him, and then. There was nothing. He was just a vampire. No,
what was wrong. He was Dracula. The Dracula. The two just started at each
other, until Willow and Xander chose that moment to appear.
*******************************
Whoa, was the first thought that entered Willow's head. She just stood
gazing at the pale man that stood in front of Buffy. First, she felt power
radiating off him, then, something else. Lust. Attraction. She just gazed
at him, mesmerized. Tara was just a name. Nothing. Non-existent. Her
thoughts were interrupted as Buffy spoke, quietly.
"Will, Xand, come closer to me, that's Dracula." The slayer looked dead
serious.
Wow, he's THE Dracula, thought Willow, feeling even more attracted to him.
On the other hand, Xander was obviously not impressed.
"Sure, and I'm Frankenstein," quipped the gangly looking boy. He started
to laugh. Buffy and Dracula didn't break their stare.
"Xander," said the slayer quietly. Xander stopped laughing. "Walk towards
me." The slayer showed no emotion. Xander swallowed and stepped towards
the slayer.
"I guess I'm Frankenstein then," whispered a spooked Xander. Willow just
stood. Watching. He, captivated, and frightened her at the same time but
never the less captivated.
"Willow." Buffy's voice was a million miles away. Willow wished that he
would look at her, for at least a second.
"You," said the vampire in his soft accented voice. At first, Willow
thought that he was talking to her, but then she saw his gaze was fixed on
the slayer.
"You will be mine." That was all he said. Then, there was mist, and then
a bat formed. It flew, high in the sky, and then off into the breezy night.
There was silence. Willow broke it.
"Wow," she said, her eyes on the sky.
"Giles, we need Giles," said Buffy, no emotion on her face.
*******************************
"Dracula. Are you sure Buffy?" Giles' crisp British accent held
disbelief. He had pulled off his glasses, and was cleaning them.
"I know that it was Dracula," said Buffy firmly. Xander nodded.
"It was Giles, this guy was like major creepy, turned into a bat and
everything. Bad fashion sense though. He had none," Xander shoved a cookie
into his mouth as he backed up the slayers story. She smiled in gratitude.
Willow piped up as well.
"Yeah, it was incredible when he turned into a bat," sighed Willow. She
had a far away look in her eyes as she also munched on a cookie. Anya sat
up, an overjoyed look on her face.
"Dracula, he's in town, wow, he's so," she stopped when she saw Xander
looking strangely at her.
"What is he," asked Xander.
"Dreamy," whispered Anya. Tara also looked a little dazed.
"I wish I could have seen him," she muttered. Xander looked at the three
females strangely.
"One question, why do you all seem so amazed by him, he's a vampire, big
whoop, and do you all want napkins to wipe off the drool that's coming out
of your mouths." Xander huffed and crossed his arms. None of the made a
move to answer him.
"I believe I can explain this behavior," explained Giles quietly. "You see
Xander, Dracula is famous for his power to seduce women, and even if they
have never met him, they think of him, and if his presence is near then they
shall be drawn to him, they can't help it." Xander looked hurt.
"Why is it that all the vampires get all the chicks," whined Xander, as he
plunked himself down on the couch beside his girlfriend who was still
jabbing on about Dracula.
"Um, guys, not the whole female population here is swooning for this dark
prince guy." Buffy's voice was soft; she was obviously worried about her
new foe. That puzzled Giles.
"I have no answer for that question Buffy, maybe I should consult my."
Giles stopped short, as there was a loud knocking on the door. Everyone
looked at each other, wondering who it may be. Giles got up reluctantly to
answer the door, when it burst open. A figure stood in the doorway,
blackness from the night clothing them. The occupants of the room held
their breath, as the figure stepped into the apartment, without invitation.
They obviously weren't a vampire. When light hit the figure, they were able
to see that it was a girl, a young one at that, no more than say 13. She
had shoulder length brown hair, and tanned skin. She was dressed simply, in
jeans and a tank top, a smile visible on her pink lips. There was nothing
strange with this girl. Except. Except for the fact that she had one
purple eye and one brown eye.
"Who are you," whispered Giles, concerned about this girls sudden
appearance and of her intentions.
"I'm Isabella, don't be startled, I'm on your side, here to help." The
girls voice was of any normal humans, but it was different, it sounded like
a breeze, soft and reassuring, soothing. It rang clear, devoid of
hesitation. She smiled softly, and yet it seemed to light up the whole room
in softness and had the aura of a heavenly light. Then, she laughed at
their expressions of curiosity. The laughed sounded like bells, sweet and
pure. Innocent.
"How can you help us," piped up Xander, his eyes fixed on the young girl in
front of him. He was mesmerized; she was like a heavenly being.
She laughed again, softly, yet sweetly. "In many ways," she replied
cryptically. "For one, I can help answer you questions about Dracula." She
smiled.
"First off," said Buffy, standing up abruptly, arms crossed. "WHO are you,
we know you name, and also, what are you, and what is your purpose. Most
importantly, what do you want from us in return." The tone was cold, devoid
of even a sliver of trust. Isabella was not concerned with this though.
"I was sent," she said simply. She looked at Buffy coolly. "Are you
always this mistrusting, or does it come with the job." She didn't wait for
a reply. "I'm not really here you see, I was indeed sent, by the powers in
the heavens. I'm not 13 either, I died at that age, and so it is the form
in which I appear." The group stood, shell shocked at this proclamation.
Giles walked to her, and tensely stuck out a hand, as if to touch her. She
smiled, and took his hand. He gasped; it was like touching heaven itself.
But she was real, of that he was sure.
"I'm not a ghost," she said, reading his thoughts. "I'm an angel. Here to
help you. Dracula, in his human life, so long ago, at the beginning of
time, was my brother. Only I know him, only I know how he works. I was his
first victim." Her voice held no remorse, or anger.
"I'm sorry to heard that, it must have been terrible for you." A voice
spoke up from a corner. Riley. Isabella regarded him with a cool stare,
not the smile that she had given the others.
"It means nothing to me, I have accepted it, it's water under the bridge,
as you mortals would say." Her voice was hard. Isabella stared coolly at
Riley; it looked almost like she was glaring at him. The room started to
chill as if the heater was turned off. Then, she broke her stare, and
looked at the slayer. The room heated up instantly.
"I have not much time," she said, her voice sweet again. "I can only tell
you the basics. If you are in need of me again though, I shall come, but
only if it is of utter impotence." The slayer nodded.
"I understand," said Buffy, a smile forming on her lips. Isabella rewarded
the slayer and her friends all a beautiful smile of her own. Everyone
except Riley. "First of all, the reason why Dracula has not been able to
seduce you Buffy is because of an ancient spell. It was cast long ago, by
myself in fact, to protect worthy women of falling under his charm. He had
the charm of seduction even before he became a child of the darkness, and it
was not fair to those who were meant to be with others to fall for him."
Buffy stared oddly at Isabella.
"Could you say that in English please," asked Buffy, desperately confused.
Isabella smiled. "One day, he caught the eye of a young lady. She was
married though, to her soul mate. Unfortunately, she gave up everything for
my brother, including the man that she loved more than anything deep down
under my brother's seduction. My brother ruined her life, and her destiny
to be with her soul mate. The spell that I cast ensured that any women
whose soul mate was close by would not be affected by my brothers powers."
Buffy nodded, and gazed at Riley.
"Is that why I'm not affected, because my soul mate is near?" Isabella
smiled, and nodded.
"There is something else I must tell you though," Isabella paused, as her
figure started to shift and began to grow faint. Worry became etched on her
petite face. "I must tell you quickly, and take heed to what I am about to
tell you. I have not much time left." She faded a bit more. "You soul
mate, he is in grave danger, Dracula wants you Buffy, and the only way in
which he shall be able to take you under his charm is if he destroys your
soul mate. You must make sure he is not killed."
"He's going to come after me," muttered Riley, very worried. Isabella
opened her mouth to respond, when she suddenly faded into a white light, and
then, a pure white dove. It circled around their heads, and then, flew out
the window and up into the heavens. Everyone looked at Riley who was
starting to sweat.
"We won't let him get to you," reassured Giles. Everyone looked at Buffy
expectantly.
"No," she whispered, her mind on something else. "We won't." Riley went
to his girlfriend and put an arm around her. She squeezed him back
absentmindedly. There was something wrong, and it was nagging her, she felt
like she was missing something. She just didn't know what.
******************************
Dracula paced around in circle in front of his fire. There was no sound,
the velvet red carpet muffled the sound of his shoes. He was furious. He
cursed his sister who lay in the high heavens for casting that wretched
spell of hers. If not for Isabella, the slayer would already be his. He
pounded a fist on the mahogany table, which caused his goblet of crimson
blood to tilt and spill. He absentmindedly stuck a finger in the warm thick
liquid and tasted it. It was fresh. He smiled, and went back to his
brooding, which was interrupted when a young boy barged into his lair.
"I thought I told you not to do that," said Dracula to the boy, annoyance
evident in his voice. He had taken the first boy that he had seen to be his
loyal servant, and this one was beginning to get on his nerves.
The boy bowed. He was gangly, with round glasses and tousled brown hair.
He was no more than 15, with dark skin and no fashion sense.
"Forgive me, my dark prince," stuttered the boy as his nose practically
touched the floor. Dracula waved his hand, indicating that the boy could
stand. He obeyed the silent command, and shot up like a bullet.
"What is it," questioned Dracula. He had forgotten the boy's name. It was
something like David, he wasn't sure and it was of no importance to him.
"I saw you sister, talking to the slayer." The boy was red with pleasure
that he had been able to spy on Dracula's conquest without being caught.
Dracula showed no emotion.
"What did she say." Dracula turned his back to the boy, and stared at the
flames of the fire. They were so bright, seemingly innocent, yet could
cause destruction of vast proportions.
"Just about the spell, they know about the soul mate bit now." The boy was
disturbed by his master's body language but dismissed it.
"I must strike him soon, as soon as I find out where he is hiding."
The boy nodded viciously. "Yes master, he will be dead soon due to your
great skills and the slayer will be yours. Then will you give my reward?"
The boy's eagerness annoyed the vampire. He had said he would grant the boy
eternity but now he was having second thoughts. He couldn't stand this boy
for a second, let alone eternity. Dracula turned to face his advocate and
gave him a smile that showed his fangs. The boy shifted, nervousness
settling in.
"Do you want your gift now?" The vampires voice was calm, showed no
emotion. The boy perked up.
"Yes master, please." The boy stepped towards his master. In one swift
motion, the vampire grabbed his servant by the throat and threw him into the
burning flames of the fire. He screamed as the fire devoured his body like
a hungry beast. This caused Dracula some amusement. Not for very long
though, he still had the matter of the slayers pesky soul mate to attend to.
******************************
He watched her from the shadows, always from the shadows, where he was
condemned to watch her from, while she basked in the light of the sun. He
watched Isabella, and her explanation, and the groups concern of Riley's
well being. His insides cringed, with perhaps jealousy. He took what the
angel said into perspective. He knew that he should have left his hiding
spot when the angel had disappeared but his whole being, except for his head
told him to stay, to watch her. Always her. Her slightest movement could
mesmerize him. No one else in his history could do that to him. Or could
have. Finally, when Riley put his arm around her, he could watch no more.
He turned on his heel, and walked into the darkness, his home. His prison.
******************************
Buffy felt something tug at her heart. This confused her; it was out of
place, yet. It was so familiar, so very familiar. Then, she felt it go
away, slowly. When it left, she was left empty almost, like there was
nothing left in her. Her insides had turned back to normal apparently.
Buffy shoved these thought out of her head and hugged Riley a little harder,
desperate to fill the gap in her heart.
"Buffy, Buffy." Giles had been calling her name. She startled out of her
thoughts and looked at his worried face.
"Hmm," she said. He looked at her oddly, as did everyone else in the room.
"What was that Buff, you spaced out on us there." Xander peered at his
friend. She smiled, slightly.
"Sorry, just thinking." That was all she said. Giles took off his
glasses, going into to full plan mode.
"The only plan that I can think of at the moment would to have Buffy to be
with Riley whenever he goes outside at night, it's the only way for both of
them to be protected." Buffy nodded, still thinking.
"Sounds like a plan," said Buffy. She looked at the clock. So did Riley.
"Well, I think that we should head home," said Riley, not even asking Buffy
what she wanted to do. She simply started walking towards the door. They
walked in silence under the crescent moon. Riley took the slayers hand as
they walked. They reached the motel in which Riley was staying to the time
being. They came to the door, but Riley made no move to open it.
"Hey, could I maybe stay at your house," he paused, a smile creeping on his
lips. Buffy knew what his intentions were.
"I'm not in the mood Riley, I have to figure out what to do about Dracula."
Riley's face became downcast, and he didn't say another word as he turned
and went into his room. Buffy started walking back to her mother's house.
Willow was at Tara's probably, she usually was, and Buffy didn't feel like
being alone. She entered through the window, old habits die-hard. She
undressed and changed into her pajamas, a tank top and shorts. Then, she
crawled into bed. As soon as her head touched the pillow she fell into a
dream filled slumber.
******************************
He stood in her window, watching her, knowing that he shouldn't be there,
shouldn't even be close but it seemed like he had no power over his legs
whenever he was around her. She tossed in bed, obviously having an
unpleasant dream. He ached to take her into his arms and hold her, make
everything right in her world. But it was not possible, it wasn't his right
anymore. He watched her for a minute more, before stepping into the room
through the opened window. He stood over her, watching her chest rise and
fall. He dropped his gift softly on the night table beside her, knowing
that he shouldn't leave one but not being able to stop himself. He brushed
a strand of her blonde hair away from her face ever so softly. She nuzzled
that hand in her sleep. He pulled back his hand sharply, he had not
expected a response. He turned on his heel and fled into the night, away
from the women who had complete control over him, body, heart and soul.
******************************
Buffy awoke slowly, the bright sun streaming through her open window. She
mumbled something, not wanting to get up. She turned to the other side and
when doing so, her hand hit the object that was laying on her side bed
table. She opened her sleep filled eyes. What greeted her was a rose, pure
white flushed with red on its tip. She grabbed it, noting that the thorns
had been cut off of it, and sat up, staring at it, reveling in it's beauty.
She spotted a note where the rose had been laying. Still holding the rose,
she picked up the note. It was tinted rose colored, and smelled of roses as
well. It read:

The red rose whispers of passion
And the white rose breathes of love;
O, the red rose is a falcon,
And the white rose is a dove

But I send you a cream- white rosebud
With a flush upon its petal tips;
For the love that is purest and sweetest
Has a kiss of desire on the lips

Buffy took a sharp intake of breath as she read the beautiful and
passionate words over and over again, memorizing them. She wondered who
would give her such a gift. At first, she thought Dracula, but no, he had
no invitation into her house. The second that came to mind was Riley, but
that was quickly banished, for he was caution man, he wouldn't have risked
going out at night with Dracula wanting him dead, just to give her a rose.
Another part of her whispered that Riley was not romantic enough for this
sort of proclamation of love and passion, but the other part that felt
guilty quietly shushed the voice. She stroked the rose, thinking about who
it would be. A name entered her mind, as her lips silently formed the
syllables, a flush of crimson blushing from her head to her toes. Yes, it
must have been him. She tried to hold in the tears of him being near, but
they flowed down her face, making her feel guilty, the tears leaving trails
of shame in their place. She had no right to cry over him, he was not hers
anymore, and she must accept that. Still holding the rose, she collapsed
into her pillow, sobs racking her body.
******************************
Buffy walked up to Riley's motel door and knocked, looking out at the
silent night sky. They had agreed to take a quick patrol around some of the
cemeteries. Actually, Buffy has just wanted to go alone, but Riley had been
as stubborn as a mule, yet again. She sighed. It would just be better if
Riley were just to stay safe in his motel, but once he had his mind set, he
wouldn't back out. Sort of like someone else she knew. Memories tried to
flood her, take her under their spell, give her false warmth and comfort,
but she didn't give in. She gave her head a swift shake, closing her eyes.
Riley finally came to the door, dressed in jeans and a tee shirt, holding
a stake.
"Hey, you ready to kick some vamp butt," he smiled wildly, locking the door
and setting off at a fast pace, itching to get hunting. Buffy trotted to
catch up with him, and gave him a soft smile, but inside she felt annoyed
for some reason. Maybe it was his enthusiasm. They half ran, half walked
to the cemetery. Riley out of breath, but Buffy perfectly fine, like she
had just taken a relaxing stroll. His panting made Buffy want to rip out
his lungs. HE had never panted, or was ever out of breath, this almost made
Buffy want Riley to be dead, like HE was.
They wandered around the headstones, searching for fresh ones. There were
none. Suddenly Buffy's muscles tensed. Someone was there. She tried to
figure out where they were. It was defiantly a vamp, but something about
the feeling it gave her inside made her relax. If felt warm and soft,
comforting, like a warm blanket. She knew who is was. It was Him. She
forgot all about Riley, and was going to go to him, when three vamps jumped
Buffy and Riley, snarling, fangs bared. Buffy was taken to the ground, she
had not seen them coming, she had been so intent on Him. A female had
tackled her, and a slutty one at that. She was wearing a tight black
halter-top, and tight velvet pants. She started to punch at Buffy's face
wildly, but Buffy grabbed her fists and flipped the skank off of her.
Seeing she was trying to get up, she delivered a kick to her ribs, sending
the vamp into howls of rage. The vamp jumped up, game face on, and
delivered a roundhouse kick to the slayers head. Buffy ducked down low,
avoiding it. She swept a leg under the vamps, and the vamp tumbled to the
ground. Buffy grabbed a stake out of her waistband of her sweatpants and
shoved it into the vamps heart, cold dust exploding over the mist covered
ground. Buffy turned to see how Riley was doing, which was apparently not
good. The remaining two vampires had taken advantage of Riley's weakness,
and ganged up on him. Riley was lying on the ground, one of the male vamps
kicking him, the other punching him. Buffy ran shoved a stake in the back
of the one kicking Riley in the stomach, his dust blowing away in the soft
breeze that was whispering through the graveyard. The remaining vamp
stopped his attacks on Riley, snarling at the slayer. He lunged, but Buffy
easily sidestepped his attack. She did a spin kick that hit his chin, his
head snapping back. Buffy glanced down at Riley, who was luckily getting
up, yet slowly. Unfortunately, this little glance cost Buffy big time.
Seeing his opportunity, the vamp punched the slayer's stomach, causing her
to double over. He proceeded to punch her repeatedly in the stomach, and
then the head. Growing weak, she could no long fend off the attacks, except
for a few swings here or there. She ended up on the ground, her head woozy,
with the vampire looming above her, fangs bared, practically drooling.
"I've always wanted to kill a slayer," he whispered, as he bent towards her
neck. Buffy didn't even fight, surprising herself, she didn't want to
fight, she was tired of feeling empty, of living without Him, trying to lead
a "normal" life. She just wanted it over. The vampire was an inch from her
white neck, when there was another snarl, one of great anger, and
protectiveness. There was a blur of black, a black duster flowing behind
the vampire that appeared out of nowhere. It was male, and he tackled the
vampire above Buffy, pinning it to the ground harshly, as he started
continuously punching the vampire beneath him, growls and snarls coming from
his mouth, his face contoured in the vampire visage, fangs bared, eyes
flashing. Buffy jumped up, doing nothing but watching this, her eyes fixed
on the vampire on the top, the familiar shape, the one she knew so well.
Finally he took a stake and shoved it into the undead beating heart of the
vampire beneath him. Only then did Buffy get see the face of her savior,
and it only confirmed her hearts suspicions. She breathed out his name
softly as his yellow eyes flashed into hers, almost guiltily, yet with
passion and lust.
"Angel." It was barely a whisper. She started walking towards him, but he
jumped up, away from her, his face still that of a vampire. She never
noticed. Buffy reached out a hand, as if to touch him, and he paused, but
all of a sudden his face changed back into that of an angel and he started
sprinting away from her. Buffy's reflexes kicked in, as she started running
after him. They ran past a mumbling Riley, and when they were at the gates
Buffy could faintly hear him calling her name, but her mind did not register
it, nor did it not care. Her heart was in charge at the moment. Her
breathing became shallow, but her legs still kept up with the fleeing
figure, her body was being pumped with adrenalin that she had not felt for
the longest time. She felt like she could run around the world; twice even,
as long as she knew that she would be following him.
Buffy didn't know how long she ran for, but soon she recognized her
surroundings, they were running up to the cliff that Angel had tried to end
his life on. He was trapped though, and this thought caused the slayer to
speed up. He took a second to look over his shoulder at her, but that was
his mistake. He unknowingly ran straight into a tree, where he proceeded to
fall down, clutching his head, and his pride. Buffy threw herself to her
knees in front of him, and immediately took his bleeding head into her
hands. He tried to shimmy away from her, but Buffy kept her grip firm.
Angel didn't look at her though, as much as she tried to tug his head up to
meet her eyes, he was stubborn.
"Don't be a baby," she said softly, trying to get a better look at his
nasty cut that the tree had given to him. He didn't answer her. Just
struggled more. Buffy was beginning to get fed up. Finally she tried the
only thing she knew would work to get his attention. She shoved her head
under his and latched her lips onto his. At first he tried to pull away,
but then his lips were pressing back firmly on hers. Her hands left the
clutch in which she held his head and they grazed down his back, and then
back up again, only to find their way into his spiky brown hair. He lifted
his large hands up from the dewy ground and wrapped them around her slim
waist, holding her flush against him, in an embrace of urgency and pent up
passion. Buffy didn't hold back, she responded to his actions and started
to slip her tongue into his cold, waiting mouth. His cold tongue danced
with hers, as he slowly eased the slayer onto the ground beneath him.

Riley got up slowly, his head swimming. He looked around for his
girlfriend, but she was nowhere to be seen. He faintly recalled her running
past him, and him calling out her name, but it could have just been his
imagination. Riley groaned and clutching his back started to head towards
the graveyard gates but he was blocked by a tall, cold figure. Riley
stumbled back, as his eyes traveled up. A tall, pale vampire loomed over
him, smirking at him, but his cold eyes held annoyance.
"Hello mortal." When he spoke, Riley shuddered; it was like burning cold
ice passing through ever vessel in his body.
"I take it that you're the famous Dracula who's after my girlfriend."
Riley's voice held contempt as he sized up the vampire who had to kill him
in order to get his lover.
"Hmm, you're smarter than you look, but not by much." Dracula stepped back
from the young mortal, but Riley stepped back in front of him.
"You'll never get her." His eyes were hard. Dracula laughed, the sound
echoing through the night.
"Well, your stupidity is showing through now boy. You see, I will get her;
she will be mine, as soon as I get rid of her pesky soul mate. Now, just
move out of the way boy, I have some killing to do." Dracula started
walking towards the gates, when Riley called out.
"Where are you going chicken, he's right here!" Riley stood, hands on
hips, a stake in his hand, trying to look tough. Dracula walked back
towards the former command boy who was shaking in his boots. Riley knew at
that moment he was dead, and he prayed the Buffy would be alright after he
was gone. Dracula stopped an inch from him. His form started to shake with
laugher, deep, booming laughter that made Riley's teeth clench.
"Boy, you are 10 times stupider than I first thought you to be. You
thought that you are her soul mate? You should know better than that
mortal, she belongs to another." His eyes flashed. "But soon, after I kill
him, she will be mine and there will be nothing anyone can do to stop me."
Dracula swept his cape over himself, and turned into a bat that fluttered up
into the night sky, leaving a confused Riley. Riley started running, out of
the graveyard, and into the night, in search of his beloved.
******************************
Angel took his lips off the slayer lips beneath him and placed them on her
neck, moving slowly up and down the pale track with soft butterfly kisses.
She threw her head back into the grass, and grabbed his back with her small
hands. He traveled up her neck to the spot behind her ear that made her go
wild. She started to breathe hard, and wriggle in his arms, trying
desperately to get closer to him.
"Mmmmh, Angel," she moaned in his ear. She took her hands off his back and
reached underneath his duster to unbutton his red silk shirt underneath.
She sighed, and started to run her hands over his strong abs and chest, as
he continued to kiss her neck. He took his arms from around her and reached
them up to start lifting up her tank top. He was interrupted by Buffy's
name be called, and the source of it was coming closer. Angel practically
jumped off Buffy, his eyes wide with guilt. They stood staring at each
other, Buffy panting hard, as Angel quickly re-buttoned his shirt. The
voice came closer, but neither broke the stare. Finally, Angel jumped up,
and ran into the night, leaving Buffy to stare lustfully after him. She
tried to stand, but her legs were woozy and her head was spinning from their
little performance. She was still panting heavily. The slayer looked around
for the source that had so rudely stopped what could have happened. Buffy
guiltily banished this though from her head, the logical part knew that she
would die if Angel ever went "grr," again, but the other part, the larger
part didn't give a damn. That part was sick and tired of being alone and
just wanted to give into the temptation. Suddenly, Riley appeared out of
the darkness, although not with the stealth that Angel had. Buffy jumped
up, or tried too, wobbling here and there as she hurriedly straightened her
tank top and her hair. There was nothing she could to about the flush that
was upon her face though, or her swollen lips. Riley peered at the girl in
front of him.
"Buffy," he asked, squinting. "Is that you? I've been looking all over
for you. Why did you run off?"
Buffy brushed some of her golden hair behind her ear.
"Um, vamp, had to, um, follow it, you know how it is." She gave him a weak
smile. Riley smiled back, but his eyes held something else.
"Buffy, is something wrong, you look, I don't know, different somehow."
Buffy hid her eyes. She would die if Riley ever found out.
"No, I'm fine, that vamp just really gave me a work out, that's all." She
offered him another weak smile. He looked at her sympathetically.
"I understand, I guess we're just going to have to step up on your
training, hey." Riley laughed a little at this, but Buffy's eyes went cold.
"I can only do so much," was her soft reply. Riley sighed.
"Yeah, but I have to admit, you have been a little sloppy lately. You can
always improve slaying skills. I have an idea, why don't we hit the gym
tomorrow, I can give you some tips." He offered her a large smile, which
the slayer did not return.
"How dare you," she said, her voice rock hard. Riley looked a little
confused at this.
"How dare you tell me that I should step up on my training. Who the hell
are you to be giving me tips. You aren't my watcher, I don't have to take
orders for you, so don't try to give them. Just because you worked for the
initiative, you think you know all, and can do all, well let me tell you
this, I'm the slayer. I'm the one with the superhuman strength. The only
strength you ever got was from those steroids those commando freaks gave
you. I'm the one who has outlived my expected life rate. I'm the one who
doesn't have a choice about weather or not I'm going to slay. I've slayed
more demons in a month than you have your whole life. And here you are, all
big and mighty, thinking that you're the master of demon killing, and that I
should be looking up to you, asking for advice. Well get your head out of
the gutter. You aren't as great as you think you are, and you don't
understand anything about slaying at all. Just leave me alone, okay!" With
this little speech that Buffy had wanted to tell Riley since the moment the
initiative started getting in her way, she turned on her heel and ran off,
leaving a broken hearted Riley.

Angel sighed deeply and collapsed onto the bed. After his little
adventure, he had escaped to the mansion where he was staying for the time
being. He didn't dare close his eyes, for every time he did, all he could
see was her face, remembering their released display of passion. Angel
sighed deeply again, cursing himself for letting her see him.
I should have just left the moment I got that vamp off her; she could have
finished him off.
But Angel knew that he had also wanted her to see him, a part of him still
hoped and wished that she still have feelings for him, as he did for her.
She apparently had, she had proved that on the hill. A part of Angel wanted
to declare his love for her to the world, but he knew he couldn't, for they
could never be together, he was condemned to the shadows and the night and
although she was the slayer she was still a creature of the sunlight and the
beauty. He got up suddenly, and marched over to his weapons case, and
started rummaging though it. He picked up a sharp double-headed axe, and
began sharpening it, determination set in his jaw. He had spent enough time
following his love, and he had other matters to attend too, like making sure
that Dracula was dust, before he himself was the dust. He was thankful that
at least he had something to potentially get his mind off the slayer. At
least for the time being.
I just have to kill Dracula, the threat to Buffy's life will be gone and
then I can just go back to LA, and Buffy can forget this every happened.
Angel kept repeating this in his head, over and over, as if to convince
himself that it was all for the best, but a part of Angel didn't want Buffy
to forget their love. No, he wanted her to remember their love, as well as
the forgotten day. Maybe then she would understand how much he cared for
her, and how much he was willing to give up for her safety.
