> Looking out the window, Cordelia Chase let out a sigh of boredom. She

> couldn't believe how slow business had been recently. Nobody was in

> trouble, nobody was being followed by demons or vampires, which meant

nobody

> needed their help. It also meant no more visions.

>

> "What are you thinking about Cordelia?"

>

> Cordelia turned to see Angel standing in the doorway. She hadn't heard

him

> come upstairs. Then again she never did.

>

> "Just how quiet it has been. I probably just jinxed us though, so watch

out

> for the creatures that go bump in the night," Cordelia walked back to her

> desk and sat down. The computer screensaver had been on almost all day.

> Cordelia was almost beginning to enjoy watching the little fish swim

across

> the screen.

>

> "You weren't thinking about Doyle?" Angel asked.

>

> "Actually, I was just about there," Cordelia took a sip of her coffee and

> closed her eyes.

>

> She had thought about Doyle almost non stop since that night. His heroic

> death was still a very vivid memory. So was the beautiful kiss that they

> shared seconds before he sacrificed himself. She traced her lips with

her

> index finger.

>

> "I was. That's why I came up here. I didn't want to think about him

> alone," Angel looked at Cordelia. She knew he was concerned about her.

She

> had barely been much company since Doyle's death.

>

> For the first few days she searched the office for things to remind her

of

> him. Then she had the first vision and realized that the little Irish

man

> had passed his gift onto her when they kissed. She spent the next day

> kissing everyone in sight trying to get rid of it. Since then she hadn't

> spoken much. Not to Angel, not to Wesley, not even to her agent who

called

> a couple of times about commercial auditions. She couldn't handle

another

> audition like the one for the stain remover. She had balled her eyes out

> when she was supposed to be cheerful.

>

> "Angel, I just wish I had had more time with him. I never even went out

> with him. The night he died I was going to let him take me out,"

Cordelia

> smiled at the memory. "I didn't even care that he was half-demon. I

still

> liked him."

>

> Cordelia remembered her initial response to the news. She wasn't so much

> shocked that he was half-demon, just hurt that he never told her.

Although,

> she would never be sure how she would have reacted if he had told her in

the

> first place, she could understand now why he hadn't.

>

> "You know things will get better and it will get easier to be without

him,"

> Angel had been trying everything he could to convince her of this. If

> anyone could it was him. He had walked way from Buffy and as the days

past

> it got a little easier.

>

> "I know Angel, but for now I would just like to be"Cordelia stopped

> suddenly.

>

> "Cordelia?"

>

> Cordelia grabbed her head and let out a loud moan. Her eyes rolled into

the

> back of her head as she fell out of her chair.

>

> "Angel, it's Buffy," she managed to whisper before she fainted.

> "You know you guys are going to have to talk about it sooner or later.

You

for

>

> "I couldn't agree more," said a voice from behind them.

> "Riley," Buffy said as she turned around.

>

> "Uh, I think I am going to go fond Tara and see if she can help me with

eth

>

> "Okay, fine lets talk. We can go back to my room, it's a little more

>

> "Alright."

>

> They walked in silence to Stevenson Hall. Buffy watched the people

around

>

> She led Riley up to her room and sat down on her bed. He sat down on

> Willow's bed facing her. Just seeming her staring at her reminded her of

in

>

> "Buffy"

> "Riley"

> They managed to start at the same time, which was a good sign to Buffy.

At

waited

> weeks to tell her he was a vampire. She shook her head. Again she was

>

> "You go first," they said again.

>

> "Ok Riley. What I have to tell you isn't easy. It's something I'm not

> supposed to tell anyone, but I feel that you deserve to know and you kind

of

fiddled

> with the claddaugh ring she still had on her finger. "I'm the slayer."

"Are we there yet," Cordelia whined from the backseat. She had climbed back

there about an hour before to try and take a nap. Unfortunately she had

never fallen asleep.

"We have about a half an hour left until we reached Giles' house. I hope

he' home and awake. You did remember to call him before we left right?"

Angel looked into the rearview mirror hoping to catch Cordelia if she tried

to lie. He had asked her to call because they couldn't leave until it had

gotten dark out and he wanted to make sure that no matter how late it was

Giles would be there to let them in.

"Yes, I called him. I told him at the latest we would be there by midnight.

He didn't seem to happy that we were coming," Cordelia pointed out.

Angel knew Giles wasn't happy to see them. Cordelia maybe, but definitely

not him. As far as Giles was concerned, Angel was a very bad distraction

for Buffy. Angel had wanted to just go to Sunnydale save Buffy and leave.

He didn't want to disturb anyone or stay at anyone's house, but all that

changed when Cordelia forced him to bring her. He knew all she wanted to do

was help, but in the long run she could be a burden, but as she pointed out

she would be a great necessity if she had any visions.

"Well its about eleven fifteen now so we are making good time," Angel tried

to change the subject. He hoped that Cordelia would get bored and try to

fall asleep again.

"This is going to be so much fun Angel. It's going to be like old times.

All of us fighting together to help Buffy, I can't wait," Cordelia was

almost giddy.

Cordelia spent the next half an hour reminiscing about the good old days.

Angel hadn't seen her this happy since before Doyle died. Suddenly, he was

glad that she had come along. They pulled up in front of Giles' house about

midnight. Angel started to feel a little unsettled about seeing everyone.

He kept trying to let Cordelia's enthusiasm envelop him, but he still knew

that nobody wanted him here.

"Cordelia, I should have stayed in LA and just called them to tell them that

Buffy was in danger. Nobody wants me around especially Buffy and Giles,"

Angel said as he parked the car.

"Oh shut up Angel. Stop feeling sorry for yourself. It is your duty to

protect everyone I have visions about and that includes Buffy," Cordelia was

trying to reason with him. He knew she was right, he was doing what was

right whether anyone wanted him there or not.

"I guess your right. Let's go in and explain everything to Giles," Angel

got out and grabbed Cordelia's two suitcases and then his own bag. He

didn't understand why she insisted bringing so much crap, but decided it was

just because she was Cordelia. She had to look good at all times even when

she was fighting vampires and demons.

Cordelia practically ran to the front door. Angel could tell she as trying

to hide her excitement, but he knew she was ready to see her friends. She

hadn't made very many friends in LA besides Doyle and now that he was gone

she only really had Angel and Wesley.

Angel lugged the three bags to the door. By the time he got there Cordelia

was already inside and Giles was holding the door open.

"Hello Angel," Giles reached for one of Cordelia's suitcases offering to

help Angel out.

"Hello Giles. It's good to see you," Angel said as he walked into the

house.

"So tell me why you are here," Giles insisted as soon as Angel had set the

bags down.

"Cordelia might be able to tell you a little more than I can, but in a

nutshell Buffy's in trouble," Angel announced.

"So how'd it go?" Willow asked as she handed Buffy a bowl of ice cream.

Willow had come home about an hour after Riley left. She had decided not to

pry right away, knowing that things might be a little touchy.

"It went suprisingly well. I explained to him the whole chosen thing and

how that meant I must fight all the demons and vampires in Sunnydale. I

also tried to tell him about the Hellmouth, but he already knew about that,"

Buffy answered in between spoonfuls of ice cream.

"And..how did he explain the whole commandos thing?" Willow was really

interested in knowing what the deal was with the guys who had captured

Spike. Ever since Spike had told her about them she was dying to get more

information.

"He said they have a lab under their frat house that is under top security.

They store the vampires they catch in cages. He said they run tests and

place devices in them that keep them from harming living things like the one

in Spike," Buffy explained.

"Did he say why?" Willow asked. She was intrigued with the underground lab

full of vampires.

"He said he was recruited his freshmen year by Professor Walsh. I guess

she's the ringleader. She has never said who she works for or why, just

that they need to capture these vampires to keep them from killing. She has

basically made Riley and the others believe that all vampires are bad. They

run tests on them and treat them like guinea pigs. I may not like vampires

very much, but nobody deserves to be treated like that against their will,"

Buffy stopped when the phone rang.

Willow looked at the clock. "Who would be calling at twelve thirty in the

morning?"

"Hello," Buffy answered. "What? Okay Giles we will be right there."

"What's going on?" Willow asked as soon as Buffy had hung up.

"Giles said we really need to get to his house as soon as possible. He also

said we need to be very careful," Buffy got up and grabbed her jacket off

of the chair in the kitchen.

"I wonder what is going down," Willow said as she followed Buffy out the

door of their dorm. They hurried out of Stevenson and onto campus. The

walk to Giles' was a fifteen minute walk that Buffy hoped to shorten.

"Buffy, hey Buffy," someone yelled from behind them. Buffy turned around to

see Riley running towards them.

"I thought you were on patrol," Buffy said as she continued to walk quickly.

"Just got done. Where are you guys off to in such a hurry?" he asked.

"There's an emergency at Giles'," Willow answered knowing that Buffy wasn't

going to.

Do you guy want a ride? I have the keys to the car," Riley offered.

"That would be wonderful," Buffy stopped and motioned for Riley to lead the

way.

Five minutes late they pulled up in front of Giles' house. Buffy rushed to

the door followed by Riley and Willow. She didn't even bother knocking on

the door, knowing that Giles was expecting her. Half way in Buffy stopped

dead in her tracks.

"Angel?"
