Title: Doomed: Alternate Ending Part 1
Author(s): Kathy
Comments: Continuation of Buffy with Riley, at the end of "Doomed."

Buffy lay silent in Riley's arms as they both drifted asleep
on the bed.
She felt content knowing that maybe Riley was right, and that
life as she
knew it didn't have to hinder her happiness....
The sun shone on Riley's face warming his cheeks, his arms
held Buffy
tightly. He was dreaming of life back home on the farm, the plows
moving
strategically over the fields, until he heard a horrible shrieking
in the
room. It was Buffy, she was crying in her sleep.
"I'll never forget! I'll never forget!" She wimpered.
Riley grapped
her and
held her against his body. She felt so frail and small in his
arms,
insomuch as he felt that if he held her any tighter her body would
turn to dust.
"Buffy! Buffy! Wake up!! Please..." Fear began to
consume him, as
Buffy
began to get hysterical. Tears were streaming down her rosy and
dewy
cheeks. He could feel her body shaking in his arms, and in a
mere moment
she was silent again. He lay her down on the bed, leaned over
and kissed
her forehead.
"You are a mystery to me Buffy Summers. What other secrets
are you
hiding?"
He whispered as he watched her sleep.
"Riley..." Buffy began to awake. Her eyes slowly
opening, seeing the
foggy
image of Riley leaning over her.
"You were screaming....and...and...I couldn't stop...I
couldn't stop you
from screaming, and you were crying...and I didn't know...I don't
know...what is going on?" He jumped off the bed, and began
to pace the
room.
"Riley, what are you talking about? One minute we're taking
a nap, next
minute you're all anxietal hyper-pacing man on me? Think you can
slow down a
little and tell me what you're worried about?" She asked
him in her usual
Buffy self.
"We were sleeping and then I heard you screaming. You
were crying about not
forgeting something...I don't know, but it scared the living daylights
out
of me. And then you just stopped, just like that..."
"I don't remember..."
Riley slowly sat back down on the bed, and held her small hands in his...
"Please..."
"I don't remember..." She said again. Her lip quivering
and eyes
brimming
with tears...
They just looked at each other...and the room fell silent.

Subject: "Dreams": Continuation of Alternative ending
to
"Doomed"
Title: Dreams
Author(s): Kathy
Comments: Part 2 of the alternative doomed endings
Disclaimer: Original characters and other things belong to the
original
Buffy people, not me. The rest belongs to me though. :)
[Setting: Giles's Place]
"Giles..." Buffy said softly as she approached her English friend.
"Oh yes Buffy...I was looking at these old spells and
I noticed
that...."
Giles stopped in mid-sentence after noticing the distraught look
on Buffy's
face. Her eyes were so wide and so distant, that he could not
help noticing
that something was bothering her terribly. "Are you alright?"
"I had a dream. Although, I don't know what the dream
was. I was with
Riley and..."
"With who? Riley?"
"Yes Giles with Riley. I was with Riley, and I must have
dreamt something
horrible. But the thing is that I can't remember, and I've tried
to
remember but I can't. Riley said that I kept on repeating that
I wouldn't
forget something, but I just can't remember."
"Right...are you sure this dream was important? or was
it just a
nightmare?"
"Giles please...I know that it must have been important.
I have this
feeling in me that if I could only remember, something horribly
important
might be revealed. And although that sounds horrible in itself,
I have to
know. What if it has to do with the hellmouth or with Faith,
or anything
else horrible that will or has come my way?!" Buffy placed
her hands
tentatively on the desk and leaned closer to Giles. "I could
never forgive
myself if something happened, and knowing that I could have stopped
it from
happening."
"Buffy, you can't always stop everything, and just because
you dreamt of
something horrible, doesn't necessarily always mean that it will
happen. I
know that your dreams have been helpful in the past, but please
Buffy, don't
always trouble yourself this way."
Buffy turned her face away. She began to feel that lump in
her throat,
making it harder for her to hold back her tears.
"Giles...I don't know what else to do. I want to be a
normal girl. To
have
a normal life. To wake up in the morning and have to worry about
being late
for class and about doing poorly on an exam. But instead, everytime
I wake
up and everytime I lay myself to sleep I pray that I can be normal."
At that moment, there was a knock at the door. It was Will,
Xander, and
their new found companion Spike.
"Oh yes, just what I need... to spend another lovely day
with dearest Buffy
and her book-worm buddy." Spike muttered sarcastically as
he entered the
room. "Oh how wonderful...a cat...I love cats...Come here
kitty...kitty..."
Spike began to follow the poor animal into the hall.
"Spike...nooooo...." Willow and Xander followed him.
Buffy quickly slipped out the door.
[Setting: At the beach]
Buffy walked sullenly by the waters edge, her feet dragging
through the wet
sand as she became lost in her own thoughts. What if Giles was
right? Maybe
the dream wasn't anything and that she was only making more trouble
for
herself. But what if he was wrong? It couldn't have been nothing,
if she
was as upset as Riley had described. If only she could remember.
"You're a hard person to keep up with..." A voice
said to her from
behind.
It was Riley. He stood there with worry visible in his eyes.
His hair blew
in the wind as he stepped closer to Buffy and kissed her gently.
"What are you thinking about?" He asked anxiously.
"I'm thinking about what happened earlier today. I want
to know
more."
"Are you sure that would be a good idea? I mean look what
it's done to you
already. Buffy what could be so important to you that would cause
you to
pursue such madness?"
"It's the uncertainty. My whole life revolves around
uncertainty. I never
know what will happen next, and when it does, it's not usually
a pretty
sight. There's much you have to learn about me Riley. Don't
paint a pretty
picture of me in your head because it'll only become vulnerable
and erased
with time."
"Buffy, don't do this. Don't let things like this make
you so distant.
How
are we to be together if you won't let me help you. Let me know
you Buffy,
please don't push me away."
She could feel Riley's concern and it touched her to know that
he cared that
much for her. And she felt that maybe if he understood, she could
learn to
really like him. But to love him, would mean that she would have
to let go
of Angel. And she knew that she didn't have the ability to do
so, at least
not yet.
With this thought lingering in her mind, she looked at Riley
and walked
slowly towards him.
"I don't want to push you away, just give me time."
She said this to
him, as
she leaned herself against him, and felt his arms wrap around
her body. Her
head was snugged tightly against his chest and she could feel
the beating of
his heart.
At that moment, a strange feeling came over her, and for a
moment she could
see nothing but blackness. She fell hopelessly to Riley's feet.
"Buffy...Buffy...look at me! are you okay? Buffy?!"
Riley grapped hold
of
her arms and shook her lightly. Her eyes stared directly at him,
but did
not see him. It looked almost as if she were looking right through
him.
There was nothing but silence for awhile, and then her lips
began to move as
if she were going to say something, and she did. Riley looked
at her in
confusion, and just held her tightly, fearing that he was losing
her to her
own mind.
She had whispered "Angel."
